I like nekojiru, or cat soup! Cos it's funny, and the writer is creative to produce something so cute and yet provocative. Beyond it's cuteness, there is a dark side.

Welcome!
You'll start to see certain universal themes come out as you watch more anime, and a lot are a direct reinforcement of Japanese culture. For example, a growling stomach from hunger is considered rude, falling cherry blossom petals or feathers usually signify the passage of time, and characters rarely have black hair just so they can be identified.
Some anime is weird, some not very interesting, some violent, some rude, some are simply entertaining. Most have a lot more meaning than what your first impression tells you, and a lot of it deals mainly with the interaction between characters,
One of my all-time favorites is Ghost In The Shell. Not the series, the original movie, made in 1996. It's entertaining enough to enjoy even if you don't understand exactly what's going on, but I discover something new every time I watch it. It's about an android agent named Motoko Kusanagi who questions her own identity and sense of self in a high-tech world where everything is connected by the "Net". After all, if she's mostly artificial parts, does she still have a soul? How can a constructed being define her individuality?
Through a series of random accidents, a translation program becomes self-aware and escapes from the department that created it. Kusanagi is assigned to track down the program, and needs to find out how something without even an artificial body can be self-aware. The movie brings up some very serious questions about what makes each of us individual, and shows how much Kusanagi is willing to sacrifice to find her true nature.
One of my favorite series is Haibane Renmei. There's hardly any action, no swearing, no "pretty boys" or fancy mechs. It's simply a story of a young girl named Rakka who is "reborn" into the world as a Haibane; a race of people that have no recollection of their past and rely on the generosity of the town to survive. Did I mention that all Haibane have wings?
It's a story about personal interaction, guilt, sins, acceptance, and self discovery. Each Haibane is trying to find out why they are there and what their purpose is, and though some become obvious most are still quite vague. Where is this town? Could this be some type of "Purgatory" for the Haibane to atone for past sins, and if so why are there so many very small Haibane children?
There are so many meanings one can derive from the series, and those interpretations can and will change each time you watch it. A truly fantastic anime!
Other favorites include Last Exile, Wolf's Rain, Hellsing, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, and sCRYed. Have fun, and if you find a series that you MUST have, look for it on eBay. You can get most series on 2-3 DVDs for under $30, rather than pay $30 for each disc!

I love dragonball/z/gt.It`s a genial anime. It has action, love, hate, unrepeatable characters with original minds of their own. It was an interesting anime about the course of life. Dragonball shows it`s characters into many years of their life. Their changes, their families, their craziness we know all about them. I see how chichi obsesed with studying her sons began giving goten special fighting lessons, how vegeta from a cold killer who didn`t care for anyone on the universe start`s a family. It`s amazing how much he loves them, especially his daughter bulla, and then we have the gr8 goku, whom remains always strong and naiv.Pure of heart.I also like yugioh, duel monsters is a cool game and anyway yami is not that bad....

I love anime! I read almost anything. WHen i go to Borders or Barns and Nobels I naturally spend about ten to thirty minutes readding comics to pick out. If you were to go to a book store I highly recomend Fruits Basket. I fell in love with it. I love all comics but it depends on what type of genre you like. Once you figure out what it is then you will figure out what books to buy. I guess I like all comics because I enjoy making them too! (^.^) (*.*) (-.-) (>.<)
