If you like religious songs, try Michael Card or Paul Wilbur. They have great songs that you can teach in class.

Other than that, these songs would be great for a soloist(s) and a choir in the background:
-When You Believe (OST Prince of Egypt)
-songs from OST The Preacher's Wife
-I Believe I Can Fly (R. Kelly, OST Space Jam)
-Dance With Me (Paul Wilbur, a very romantic spiritual song)
-I Turn To You (Christina Aguilera)
-You Raise Me Up (Josh Groban)
-Go The Distance (Michael Bolton)
-Flying Without Wings (Westlife)
-Stay The Same (Joey McIntyre)
-Emotion Sickness (silverchair -- an awesome rock song that does well with a choir and an orchestra)

if you have some really good students, like maybe a BarberShop Quartet try something like "The Jericho Road" or "Beulahland"(spelling?)
when I was in choir we used to sing the one about " Pharoah let my people go" alot
but if ya want to throw them for a loop, this will cover the religious style that your after and give em some kicks, try to find Lynyrd Skynrd's "Can't take that away" it's from "The Last Rebel" album
has an EXCELLENT message and a good style.

uhm....why not stray a bit from the "traditional" and go more for the up beat modern type like "walk with you" from "touched by an angel", or "oh happy day" like from "sister act 2". or "go light your world" by kathy tricolli. but then again, are you sure that you want to take "religion" into the schools these days? im all for it, but you will run the risk of offending someone, and more than likely, a few of your students by making them sing these songs as well.

Disney makes great chorus songs and a bonus is that alot of your students will already know them. My favorite from chorale was "Kiss the Girl" from Little Mermaid. Good luck!
