I have recently switched to Firefox as I was told it was more stable and secure than explorer. But I am finding that the server on Firefox constantly 'times out' and pages are much slower than with Explorer. Are there any advantages to staying with Firefox or should i just go back to Explorer? Help!

Use both. Firefox is safer than IE, so use that first. When you know that a website is safe, but might function better in IE, then switch.

You see, Firefox does not support ActiveX. Some websites require that. (just how stupid is that?). But ActiveX is where most of the security threats are.

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

This double whammy will help keep you safe and running faster.

Personally I would keep and use both. You cannot access the windows update site with Firefox, this site only accepts Internet Explorer. For all other browsing I would use Firefox - it's secure, has tabbed browsing and support from Mozilla is superior to Microsoft. If you're having problems with Firefox pop along to the firefox website and have a look through help pages.

Several. One Firefox is not Microsoft, and therefore has been tested before release! Two, as you mentioned, firefox is vastly more secure and generally more stable the explorer (the timing out thing gives you an idea, if you internet connection is left open as with explorer you are not only able to be "seen" but also be accessed. Three, Firefox doesn't report back to Microsoft! Even if you ask Explorer not to report an error found.. it will. This is all part of the testing and development stage. Four. Firefox allows you to Tab easily allowing several webpages up in the same window. Five, Phishing is harder when using firefox (this is where a sppof sitre sets itself up as a wellknown site and gets your details before you realise, a common one for this is a paypal scheme or ebay scheme.) (For extra secuirty I can heartily recommend downloading a free bit of software called spoofstick. Lok it up, it's worth the google time!

Try reinstalling Firefox.

Its very important that you stick with Firefox, or Opera for that matter.
Internet Explorer = spyware, viruses, stolen ID, etc.

United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team:
"There are a number of significant vulnerabilities in technologies related to the IE...It is possible to reduce exposure to these vulnerabilities by using a different web browser"

"...a virtual engraved invitation to hackers and other digital delinquents, Internet Explorer 6.x might be the least secure software on the planet"

Go here and compare each browsers patched and unpatched holes, make sure you also compare how "critical" these holes are to each browser. The conclusion is that no browser is perfect, but Insecure Exploder is the least secure browser you can be using.

I have used Firefox for over a year now and find it very stable. There are some pages that don't load properly sometimes but there is a plug-in that lets you view the page in IE.
IE is more hackable so the a s s h o l e hackers go for that. Firefox is difficult to hack, making it more secure.
Also, you can add all kind of plug-ins and enhancements with Firefox.
Try doing that with IE.
Stay with Firefox but don't uninstall IE.

You could try re-installing Firefox as has been suggested - you should also check you have the legit version from the Mozilla site, and only use plug ins from Mozilla.
Also check that you don;t have spyware/trojans sharing your internet connection as that will slow you up. I suggest Avast! antivirus, Ewido anti spyware, Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Personal.

Before attempting to remove malware you must switch off System Restore as back up files will be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run Avast and Ewido in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

In Firefox suddently it wil show the error message :Connection has timed out- but in I. Exp. it will keep on trying and we will think it is slow. In Firefox immediatly we can try again and get connected. But still you check if there is a problem with connection.

Firefox may be safer to use than IE, but I prefer to have a browser with AUDIO included. When I tried Firefox, I had to download a bloated 'QuickTime' audio plugin to hear anything!!
That's why I went with Opera. Small footprint with audio..Easy to get 'keys' to eliminate ads.

Stay with firefox. Try downloading the update to it.
They have the version 1.5.07 version available for update.
They also have the 2.0 beta version available but I haven't tried it yet. I'm waiting for the regular version.
