Never mind my question about the lack of "Indians" in football - every UK hospital is PACKED with nurses from almost every 3rd-world nation - but you NEVER see an Anglo "Indian" girl amongst 'em...!!! I tell you - like no other nationality on earth - they pick and choose according to what they perceive as the "quality' of a job. (There are PLENTY of Anglo "Indian" doctors - but they just won't settle for (what they see as) lower grade jobs...!!! The "Indian" sub-continent is so hugely deprived, immigarants from that region refuse to take up low-grade work - (i.e., they see Cricket, Tennis and Business as "quality pursuits" but Football and Nursing as socially low-grade, down-market occupations)
They seem overwhelmingly class-conscious (after British Raj rule, no doubt...!) and consequently are terrified of poverty and only EVER back winners, or support successful teams...

Evidently, most "Indians" notice that football attracts downmarket whites, while cricket tends to appeal to white upper-class twits - who, in UK tradition, are always the ones with the power

Well, if they work their butts off to become doctors then that's a good thing isn't it ? The Indians I know admit to being quite careful with money, although they are not class conscious as such. As for supporting successful teams, being from an immigrant communty means you may not always have the same connection to a local team as the indigenous population; thus you choose a well known name.

I agree, at the end of the day the "indian's" (generalising also for all those countries) are generally fantastic in medicine and could really bring something to the national and private health services. Maybe it is because they have a very misogynistic society so generally if an "Indian" man is working and making good money, the woman is expected or wants to stay home and be a house wife. This would ring true to the somewhat victorian values which still perpetuate in "Indian" society.

Well, you already have your own answer.
I hope you suggest that 'settling' for a higher grade job is a positive thing, it's a real shame more people don't think like that rather than settling to a job in McDonalds.

I trained as a paediatric nurse and there was an anglo Indian girl on my course...........she can't however work in every hospital so that she gets seen lots and lots and you are right they are few and far between.

I really don't know to tell you the truth. I just guess that since the UK has ruled those countries for several years, they just don't want to hire people from the country.
