When you get very annoying, fraudulent, money-hungry emails in your inbox that aren't supposed to be there in the first place, do you find it ethical to forward their emails back to them? Sometimes they go through and sometimes they don't, but maybe we can annoy them in return. What do you think?

I do that sometimes too! No idea if it works, but I feel better about it. So yes, I do think it is ethical. Tit for tat, they are sending you unsolicited emails and so are you.

Most of those type of emails are Spam. And most Spammers are not ethical!

There are many other ways to protect yourself against Spam.

Try some of these.

This not a "lecture", but you have to do your part to be safe on
the Internet!

Download Spam Assassin, the Zip version for Windows

If you use Outlook/Outlook Express:

Create a Rule that sends all incoming messages to the Deleted Items
folder. Then modify the rule to allow only known email addresses
to go to your Inbox folder. Configure Outlook/Outlook Express to
Delete all in the Deleted Items folder upon exit.

If you use Thunderbird which has lots of builtin stuff to help
protect you - http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/

Also use this extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/2650/

If you use Yahoo Mail:

Log into your mail account.
Go into My Account then edit your mail Options
Turn on SpamGuard and set other choices at you desire.

Use http://www.dnsstuff.com to find known Spammers!
See the Spam Database lookup feature.

Some spammers use a program to send out mass-emails. So the emails u returned may not even bother them as they do not go to their personal inbox. There's no cure for spam, just keep deleting :)

I respond as the lawyer-mother of a ten year old who doesn't need viagra, and I couple it with the threat of a lawsuit if I see even one more email in his inbox. (All blatant lies.) You'd be suprized how many of those offers quit coming in.

If you do this, you confirm your email address as being valid to them if it goes through.

These people sell email address lists that they know work so unfortunately the best thing you can do is ignore and delete the email.
