Someone who feels insecure or inferior is indeed afraid of self . They may be afraid to make decisions ; or meet other people ,because they don't measure up to their own expectations .

All pathological (liar, abusers, thiefs etc) who deny what they do are afraid of themselves.
Because it threatens their 'believed' image of themselves that they hold in their head (despite their true selfs) which is constructed in order to give them self-esteem etc. where they have none....
They do so by simple denial and mirroring (projecting theirbadnes onto others) and having megalomania tendencies.Toan extreme, its double-lifes, to a lesser extent, 'fractured' selves or split selves....(I dont mean multiple personality)

I'm bipolar and I used to be afraid of myself. I didn't trust myself. There was a time where I would do things my mind would tell me to do, but my heart didn't want to. for example. I would hold on to a pair of sizzors and imagine them cutting into my hand and I had a hard time letting go of them. I had trouble with pills, any sharp objects, Sorry this is hard to talk about.

yes.
why: because your 'self' being who you are and what people view you as. self is just as fearable as anything else.
how: you can make yourself angry sad depressed, ect. you can cause your self death, or even kill your self strait up. Sometimes you do things you will regret, and have no control.
Its perfectly natural, even though most wont admit it to even themselves, everyone fears themselfs. For different reasons of course.
want more detail? contact me via email or 360 page.
im more than happy to help.

Oh, yes. Very much.
People can be scared of things they don't understand. Some people don't understand themselves. That's where the fear lies. Or if you know yourself too well and you're scared of the potential you have to do something, if you tend to do something you don't like, it can be scary.
