You will have good reception as long as you are on a MAJOR interstate/highway. If you are off the beaten path, the phone wont work.
Virgin Mobile works off Sprint's network so it mirrors the coverage just less because of being prepaid.

I have had good reception with virgin mobile. They use sprints network. I've been out to Oklahoma, Up to Illinois and down in south carolina in the country country where theirs nothin but fields around. And i've had good reception all the time.
