WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government is unable to confirm a French newspaper report that al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is believed to have died last month in Pakistan, a U.S. counterterrorism official said on Saturday.
"We cannot confirm the account," said the official, who declined to be identified because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the issue. "It's quite possible (that) there was some talk of this, but in terms of being able to confirm this, that I can't do."
The French regional daily L'Est Republicain reported that, according to a French secret service report, Saudi Arabia was convinced that bin Laden died of typhoid in Pakistan in late August. The French government has said it could not confirm the report and would investigate the intelligence leak.
The U.S. State Department had no immediate comment and was looking into the reports.
Media reports suggesting that bin Laden was dead, seriously wounded or in ill health have surfaced periodically over the years, especially during lengthy periods of time without taped messages from the al Qaeda leader.
U.S. officials have suggested that his death would be accompanied by a surge of e-mail and telephone chatter among bereaved al Qaeda members, if not an actual announcement from the militant network.
But officials said they were not aware of any such chatter in recent weeks.
A factor fueling persistent speculation about bin Laden's health is that he has not been seen on a new videotape since late 2004, while his second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahri, has made a number of videotaped appearances.
But bin Laden, 49, a Saudi-born fugitive with a $25 million price on his head, has released several audiotapes this year, which U.S. intelligence has authenticated.
His latest audiotape surfaced in July. In it, he warned Iraq's Shi'ite majority of retaliation for attacks on Sunni Arabs and said al Qaeda would fight the United States anywhere in the world.

OBL is getting old... he is and has been in frail health for sometime now.... however the French defense ministry called for an internal investigation of the leak of an intelligence document that raises the possibility that Osama bin Laden may have died of typhoid in Pakistan a month ago but said the report of the death remained unverified. So personally, I'm going to wait for all the facts to be in.

It's another story about a leaked secret service document, which says that he died of typhoid in Pakistan last month. We know that ll these leaks are political in nature and not to be relied on.
I believe that he has been dead for a long time. I read elsewhere that he died of kidney failure in a Saudi hospital three years ago.
From the following story, we know he had kidney problems.
Where was Osama on September 11, 2001?

He has been dead for years, got killed in a sealed cave by bombing. Bush didn't want to admit it because he wanted a head on a pike and he could never have gone into Iraq if he admitted Bin Laden was dead. Al Queida couldn't admit it because that would mean their leader was killed by the americans while hiding in a cave.
What about the tapes you say? Those are all alleged audio tapes, (he has never shown his face again) and they are all authenticiated by the CIA which has about zero credibility since becoming a propoganda agency for Bush.

Yahoo news has an article on this.
Right now it is an unconfirmed report that he died about a month ago from Typhoid.
I hope they can confirm it as true!

He is the half brother of Saudi Prince Bandar (shown in my avator kissing Bush) and he is being kept in a secret Saudi location because Bush and the Saudi Family need him from time to time to stir the pot and then keep quiet. Besides, How can he possibly be getting Kidney Dialysis in a cave in Bora Bora?

I would like some solid evidence.
My concern is that it turns into a "faked" death and that Osama is still out there. Followers will use it as a rallying point to foster more violence.
