Man made global warming is here. It is a fact. As much a fact as gravity. Worse sill the most recent studies in the polar caps show that it is accelerating at an alarming rate, possibly worse than some of the less optimistic predictions. It may or may not be possible to stop/reverse.

Added to the problem itself is the fact that each country is operating in competition with every other. For one country to make the necessary changes proportional to its contribution, that would put that country at an enormous economic disadvantage, leading economic collapse and ultimately massive loss of life. Therefore only unilateral agreement will allow effective counter warming action to be taken. Even then countries will flout their commitments in order to give themselves an economic advantage. Add to this fact that some counties rely soley on sale of global-warming products for their survival, additionally politicians of other countries are in their 'pockets'. Do we really have a chance?

EEEEEP!

So much for a relaxing breakfast... i had managed to put this out of my mind, oh well... back to reality.

Your question will cause quite a stir, these ones always do. Lets play it safe and not call it global warming, LETS CALL IT CLIMATE CHANGE... Yes its happening, yes it is only going to get worse and no, even if we all stopped driving our cars tomorrow it wouldn't just go away... Sorry. The ozone layer IS depleted, we still have holes in it over Antarctica and the skin cancer rate in New Zea-land proves it.
The amount of nasty carbons floating about up there isn't going to change anytime soon... YES the earth is on a warming cycle (still coming back from the last ice age) but the last fifty years has seen an increase in icecap melt of more then 15-20% above the normal warming rate (so the warming cycle- a constant with a bare 5% variance - is not to blame)... and i don't care what the paid specialists acting on the oil industry and national govt say to refute it! The maths does not lie!

The simple fact is that time is against us... we might have a chance if we could all agree (the Kyoto accord might have saved us but the USA said NO and so no-one took it seriously appart from the europeans).

We must stop using heavy fuel for powerstations (coal and oil) as a first step... india and china will V. soon be pumping out 15%
MORE than the USA's polllution if their economys continue to grow at the existing rate (at the moment this regions Pollution output is 20% of the USA's - in twenty five years the situation will be beyond the hands of even GOD to Fix).

Car ownership in the far east and related pollution is about one twentieth of the US... in twenty five years their will be more cars in china then the rest of the world combined... and you think its bad now?

The onlly thing that might save us... and its about as likely as little green men on mars... is that the UN enforces a global ban on all heavy fuel powerstations GLOBALY. We need to spend the next five years constructing a GLOBAL power grid using the latest superconductor tec. and build nuclear power stations at a comparable rate to breading Rabbits (LIKE CRAZY), Put in GEO-THERMAL stations where possibal and wind farms on evry coast line and hill top..... like i said, FAT CHANCE! the enviro's will never agree to Nuclear as a savior, the normal people will moan about the windfarms blocking the view and the worlds Gov. will pale at the cost.

WE ARE GOING TO SEE THE END OF CIVILISATION AS WE KNOW IT IN OUR LIFETIMES..... or rather the young will.

But hell, what do we care if our childrens children are all sunburnt mutants in a desert... we will be dead anyway so why should we care!

PS... the volcano point has one small weakness, its conclusion is wrong! The fall out from an eruption causes the blocking of the sunlight... it makes the world colder you block head- NOT WARMER... think nuclear winter, dust particals stop sunlight etc etc

I don't think so. There will have to be global catastrophe before basic human greed is overcome by the basic human need for survival. I heard on the radio this morning that the Exxon-Mobil oil company is one of the biggest sponsors of research to prove that global warming does not exist. How can we compete with that kind of money ? I think we would have to lose a billion people in all sorts of disasters before we really start moving. By then it will be too late for must of us, but humanity will survive...& hopefully learn.

The situation is progressing very rapidly as you mentioned. Everyone should do their part to reduce their carbon output. The site below allows you to calculate your personal contribution. You can make adjustments to reduce it. The good news is that every country is on board except you know who. That will happen in two years and even now individual states are already taking the responsible steps to limit greenhouse gas emissions in spite of the federal govt.

I think we can get it done but it sucks to have Nero fiddling away while the globe burns...

i do no longer think of that is achievable to quit worldwide warming now, no longer in my lifetime. at first, we could be attentive to what's inflicting the international warming. A seek on the internet will unquestionably make it easier to be attentive to various of the fairway residing house gases, that are many times commercial appropriate. Eg: oxides of nitrogen, oxides of sulfur and carbon dioxide. Now, that are the international places contributing the many of the gases that ultimately ends up in worldwide warming? Ans: u . s . and China? there's a %. that targets to regulate the effects of the international warming and with any luck stops it. The %. is referred to as the Kyoto Protocol, and it has already been signed by ability of many international locations. apparently, u . s . refused to sign it, with the aid of actuality that is going to be damaging to the upward push of its commercial sector. China is even worse, they have just about no environmental rules to controls the gases that its factories places into the air, and with its severe coruption fees, i do no longer think of China can do something sturdy every time quickly. this could be an exceptionally vast situation, no longer smething which may well be solved by ability of persons. yet, in case you desires to play a factor, you may attempt to do the three Rs, Reuse the failings, Recycle something each and every time achievable and shrink the wastage of issues. :)

Check how mass transited rail lines, (that is electrical trolley car) railway system, etc. were bypassed in the Forty and Fifty so that the car company could sale auto.
Get rid of the source, the problem diminishes.
Also are reliance on oil and coal base products.

I dont know if we can stop global warming. But that doesnt mean we should all sit down and do nothing. Even if there is no more hope I will keep on fighting and do my best to be as enviromentaly consious as possible. If you stop fighting, then what is there to live for?

You people have really been duped by Al Gore and his cronies. One volcanic eruption puts out more pollutants than all humans do in a year. Do you really think we have the power to change global climate? This planet has gone through climate changes- from ice ages to warming periods- for millions of years, without us. We can't even influence a storm. Stop thinking we have the power to change climate in general. We don't.

If you really believe this stuff:
Never use a vehicle.
Never heat your home.
Never cool your home.
Never cook your food.
Do not support anyone who does any of those things.
If you believe, but do any of the above, you are a Global Warming Hypocrite.
