try windows movie maker which is on windows xp or can be downloaded from microsoft for free .....

Try the Nero product range which is I think around version 7. It has a very simple drag and drop approach. The exact product for you need would be Nero vision. It has good range of transitions and a step by step approach for creating your own DVD with menu and commentary and other decent features.

i use nero 6 for putting family videos onto dvd, dont use version 7 as sound audio and video go out of sink.For pictures I use proshow gold,this puts pictures into a slide show on dvd on which you can play music in the background and you can download both from any decent torrent,eg fulldls.com, just remember to check them for virus or trojans before u open or instal them

If you're on a Mac, iMovie has no match on any platform. Microsoft tried (and failed) to copy it with Windows Movie Maker.
There really is nothing comparable in terms of ease-of-use for the home user.
