I think people will eventually ditch TV for home entertainment systems based around the PC. The Internet is a healthier habit because it's interactive and you can get addicted to Yahoo Answers.

There is no need to get rid of television. It's the pathetic reality TV programmes we need to get rid of. We are producing a nation of unskillful, waste of space wannabes who expect to become famous by just being on TV. I don't respect them and only respect people who work hard to achieve celebrity status.
Going back to you question, there are plenty wonderful documentaries on TV which I thoroughly enjoy and there should be much more.

Television, yes, I think that we could especially with the Internet today and we still have the radio. So there are many other ways to get informed and be entertained.

Why ?
I have 100+ channels of crap.
There is always the option of taking it to a re-cycling depot.
But between the crap is stuff interesting & informative.
Anyway, I suppose I am old enough to remember having two channells in glorious monochrome.
Oh, just turn the thing off if you don't like what is on.
Nothing wrong with TV, and to Governments around the world
I've found, it the fundamental method of comms. to nearly everyone. I know of one bloke that insists on not having a telephone in the house. He sends smoke signals, I guess.
All the best with the Question,
Bob

By choice, I haven't had a television for about 15 years. It doesn't look like I'm missing anything. Since the programming is geared to people with an IQ under 80, I don't think they have me in mind as part of their target audience.

Of course not! Television is not only used for entertainment, but you can also use it to talk to people far away. We should not get rid of television.

Sure... give George Bush more airtime for 24/7 press releases on all channels. That ought to cure people from watching ER or Will & Grace reruns.

I wouldn't mind if it went away, but it is a major source of access to the media which is needed for emergencies such as emergency announcements and knowing whats going on in the world.

I couldn't at least. And I know that if I hadn't watched so much TV in my life I'd probably have won by now a Nobel Prize in something... But now I'm over...So over.
