i'm from india. to sign up to have a gmail account they ask for my mobile number after the country where i stay and the options dont have india. then how do they send the secret code to my number if they dont have the india code or option?

maybe you can't get one if you're in india.
just find a friend in the us who can get you the code, or find someone with a gmail account already to invite you.

When I signed up for gmail I didn't have to enter my mobile number.
If you have an alternate email they can send the code to that. Make a free yahoo email, and then insert that as your alt. code.
Also, i'm not sure what secret code your talking about. If its for when you forget your password, then just make it up and hope you don't forget your password.

I do not think Mobile Number field in mandatory. You should only fill up the mandatorhy fields. Please again check the registration form
