We just bought a corn snake last weekend and it shed the next night!! I noticed the tail still has about an inch of skin that didn't come off and I am a little worried that it has happened before and has a couple layers of old skin under this new shedding. Someone told me if that is the case it could cut off the circulation and that part of his tail will fall off. I don't want that to happen so I am wondering how to get the extra skin off and also wondering if his tail will really fall off? It is humid in the room now.
There are lots of rough things for him to rub on.
Everything else came off in one peice.
So, I'm not sure what else the problem could be!
Thanks for looking at my concern and thanks for everyone's help!!

Well I got most of the the skin off of his tail by soaking it in the bath and rubbing olive oil on it and it looks like about a half inch might not make it. Will the tail grow back and is it bad for the snake? Soooo sad, I feel like calling the pet store and saying something since we just got 6 days ago.

I own a corn and a rat snake and have had the same thing happen and yes leaving it on can cause the tail to turn black and lose circulation you can put snake in damp pillow case over night to lossen then in morn gentlle rub off once off check next shed to make sure its comming off if this doesnt work try soaking in shallow tub of water to lossen then rub between rough towel good luck

I owned 2 ball and 1 byrmese pythons and would have the same problem at times. I would put them in the bath tub with luke warm water for about 10 - 15 min and peel the skin off myself by gently rubbing the area. After the water sits for a while the skin loosens and softens up making this easy. Works every time....Let me know how it goes.

When they don't shed properly they need assistance right away or an infection can develop. Try putting him (?) into a container with warm wet paper towels, not too hot. Let it set in there for 30 minutes, then try to remove the skin, if it doesn't work, another 30 minutes, grab a small piece (tweezers may be necessary) and gently try to pull it away. If it won't go try another 30 minutes. You many need to take it to a vet if an infection has occurred. You may still lose the tail, sorry.

the only thing the pet store might be at fault for is selling you a snake and not guarantee the snake without you purchasing the proper snake book and asking what kind of knowledge you already had, don't be offendedmost pet stores walk into have less know how then myself aself taught Herper of three years.

I use a reptile shedding aid for any problem's with shedding I use a Q tip to apply it too his eye's instead of spraying it so it dose not startle the snake .

Well slowly try picking it off with tweezers, careful to not get the skin, if she gets mad, try and calm her down, then try a luke-warm wet rag (soft) and gently rub the exes skin off, bye Jalea
