Go to the following website for the best computer protection and it's all free!! Remember you only need one AV and one firewall on your computer. I also have Ewido and SpywareBlaster. Also, get Site Advisor (free) from McAfee which will let you know what are good/bad websites! And don't open any emails that you don't recognise, especially those with attachments. And never give out private details if you get mail (allegedly) from banks/financial institutions.

In most cases, computer problems come from spammers. It's not very often that a computer problem comes from a destructive virus or trojan. Here's a small list:
-Be careful of what sites you visit - that's the main thing. The more places you visit, the more you are likely to get a virus or trojan.
Virus/trojan programmers and spammers obviously target popular places.
-Be careful about downloading programs.
-Don't click on any ads. If you're interested in something, go to the web site directly.
-Don't order anything online - I never order anything online. Sites usually ask for your email address, so they can sell your name. Also, if you have to enter an email address, put in a fake one. You probably won't get a virus, but spammers will use your e-mail address to spam you silly, and they might install pop-ups, trackers, address blockers, etc.
- Disable HTML graphics when you read an e-mail ad.
-Don't click on anything on an e-mail ad.
-Never respond to and e-mail ad. Some UNSOLICITED e-mail ads will say that you have to click a link in order to be removed from their contact list. Don't click the link!
-VERIFY all e-mail attachments. Always ask for confirmation from the e-mail sender before you run any e-mail attachments.

First make sure you have a good antivirus program. Make sure to choose a good one that updates often so you have the latest virus protection and make sure you scan your computer everyday. I've heard of people having their computer set to scan 2-3 times a day. That may be a little to obsessive though.
Don't open suspicious emails and especially don't open any attached files unless you know who they're coming from.
Someone else mentioned - don't go to porn sites. I just read something this week about some type of virus being attached to a lot of adult sites.

some virus's you will never be able to avoid unless you are very lucky, such as the flu. the best thing you can do is wash your hands frequently, when using a keyboard, touching phones, doorknobs, shopping carts etc. you need to keep yourself healthy by eating right and exersizing so that you will have a good immune system response to invasion by virus.
to prevent sexual virus such as hepatitis c you must use a condom. the best protection against sexual virus is to KNOW
your partner which means no one nighters. ; ) the best to you!!!!!!!!!

Hard to answer when it's an unexplained definition of virus - but generally speaking the best advice in any situation would be ......protection, protection, protection.
