Julius Caesar started his first invasion on August 26 of 55 BC. And at his second expedition to Britain(July 54 BC): he receives nominal submission from the chieftain Cassivellaunus and installs Mandubracius as a friendly king.

Julius Caesar, he didn't succeed in invading Britain and he wasn't an emperor, he was voted in as dictator for life by the roman senate. his adopted son Octavian later called Augustus was the first emperor and Julius's descendant the emperor Claudius succeeded in invading Britain in 43 ad.

Hadrian, he went up to Scotland and built a wall to mark the Western border of his kingdom. It's called Hadrian's Wall.

At first, I thought of Hadrian but the first poster had it right on (besides, Hadrian wouldn't come until in the ADs); it was Caesar.
