There is a certain trainer at the gym who just insists his manipulation of music is the end all answer to tempo training with running. I see the value of holding a certain pace, but when he plays a song that he has changed the tempo until every male singer is a frantic soprano drives me nuts!! I am weird about my music...what he is doing is like crayoning over a great painting to me...would this irritate you too?

this is a one on one conversation...not a class, I wouldn't be that rude to suggest music change for an entire class.

Oh, Honey, this would totally irritate me too. In a joking way I would tell him that his music makes you want to beat his face in and when he laughs akwardly I would look at him deadpan and say " No, seriously, stop ruining the freaking music NOW."

Yes, that would irritate the living hell out of me too. I think I would approach it the same way "kindofkitty" would...make a joke about how bad it sucks, and then say, "No, seriously" and suggest some other music. I'm sure that there are a lot of other people who feel the same way you do and would give you a standing ovation.

That would drive me right away from the gym permanently...
Since you are paying him for one-on-one time, tell him you are going to be providing your own music in the future because you feel it will be more motivating to you to work out to something you enjoy.

You have to say something. I believe that music is such an asset to any fitness programme - but, likewise, it can be horribly detrimental too. There is enough music out there to accompany what you want to do, just be honest. Otherwise you might wrap some dumbells around his head...

Yeah.....maybe just be honest and ask him to explore other music. Maybe tell him he should change the pace up and bring your own music and see if he likes it.

Just tell him that his choice of music does not fit well with yours and other peoples pace and that you prefer to have your own to set your own pace to work to.
