The Soviet Union was the most powerful enemy as during the Cold War they were a super power with nuclear capability. Thankfully their regime was so repressive that one country after another within the USSR rose up and the people demanded change. This could yet happen in Iran if the problems in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine could be resolved. This is why Iran is happy to sponsor terrorism, as long as the region is kept unstable there will be little threat from their people.

1 large well trained armed forces
2 strong and vocal propaganda machine
3 weak European defense(except for UK)
4 Smart strategy that included usurping other countries resources
5 Hitlers larger picture (assuming control of all of Europe and the east) proved his undoing

I would say that WW11 was the most "dangerous" of all conflicts that we have been involved with

danger and conflict, but never really materialized.
From Kennedy to Reagan we showed the Russians that we would not back down and also our thriving economy (including some ups and downs) continued to allow us to make strong advances technically and stay ahead of the Russians in all area's

This in and of itself probably did more to thwart any Russian ambition for world or regional conquest.


Currently Iran and its insidious quest for recognition and its penchant for buddying up to other thug nations can be considered a strong threat.

They fund nameless groups that are bent on punishing the USA
and weakening our world position.
They use propaganda and the USA media to their advantage.
But with all due respect they underestimate the resolve of the American people.
The American people being those young Men and Women who fight to keep our borders free of this kind of zealotry.

I think it is the Islamic republic only because there is a mixture of radical islamists and extremeists that are totally unpredictable and have more funding than the others had/have. Plus our dependancy on the oil in the region makes us a huge target for economical terrorism in addition to loss of life.

The most powerful enemy of the USA is envy, jealousy and evil in general.

Granted morality in the USA has dropped in areas of acceptance of homosexuality and adultry and pornography and aborton -- as normal OK behaviors in the last 30 year -- but evil goes beyond these to justification of murder in the name of a higher being.

Murder in the name of a higher being is really bad and against the plans of the true higher beings in any of the core world religions.

The drop in moral values and moral absolutes in the USA is terrible and will/has weakened us in many ways but the one interesting point is the murderes at the twin towers who flew and crashed the planes use this drop in morals as a reason for them being justified in the eyes of a higher being.

This is a great question and one that will become more and more difficult to answer as the moral structure of the USA drops because of the acceptance of homosexual BEHAVIOR as OK, acceptane of pornography as OK, acceptance of adultry as OK and of course acceptace of abortion as OK.

The key is this county was found by Christians following Judeo/Christian rules in the government. Many people IN THE USA are evnious of this and will/ do all they can to STOP the absolute morals in the Bible to be used as a basis of LAW. They prefer to have their views used to make the laws and this will lead to lawless and moral-less society.
