In the field of structural engineering an angle is a metal (normally steel) beam, which in cross-section is in the shape of an L (so it is basically a 90 degree angle, hence its name). A correct angle would be one which keeps a building up. A wrong angle would be one which was too small, and so bent a lot, and so the building fell down.

In this context, "Angle" is another way of saying "Your Thinking or way of looking at something".

It's an old phrase, but it basically means, that your way of thinking about something is wrong and you need to re-consider it.

I'm 67 and my mother used to say this to me all the time when I was growing up. Usually, she would say "I think you have the wrong angle on that".
