sometimes my dishwasher leaves some sort of grit on my dishes.
Before I start it I let the water run until it's hot so the detergent will dissolve. I don't think anything is clogged, I rinse everything before loading because I don't run it every day and I don't want it to smell.
Thanks for any help,

Hard water is a great answer for the cause.
Even if you don't feel you have a clog you may have restricted drainage lines. Hard water scale will build up inside the drain lines and restrict the flow and cause the hard water scale and soap to back up into the machine and stay on the dishes.

You may have to replace the drain lines. But first try CLR, by pouring it in the machine and running it thru a cycle. You may have to do this a couple of times.

If that doesn't help, replace the drain line.

Good luck.

P.S. after reading some of the comments here, it's true if you have soft water, you may just be using to much soap. Cut down on the amout you put into the machine.

That grit is an abrasive compound that is used in the dishwasher soap. It means it's not rinsing as well as it should, usually because something is preventing the water from flowing within the unit. Often times food accumulates at the bottom of the unit which means some minor disassembly is needed to get in there and clean it out. Sometimes the impeller pump becomes loose on the shaft which will make spin on the motor shaft and not pump water like it should. That can be fixed by checking to see if it can be tightened or else if it is stripped or cracked it will need to be replaced.
Good luck

First of all , make sure that all around the inside of the door especially inside and above are clean, get into the crevices.Second, there may be parts that comes off in the dishwasher that need to be taken apart and cleaned. Third, makes sure the drain is not blocked and the dirty water is coming back onto the dishes. Last of all use your dish washing fluid and get Jet-dry. It comes in liquid for new machines that have a dispenser on machine for it or you can get the kind that hangs in the dishwasher. If these fail to work then put a search into the Yahoo search and find the malefactors of your dish washer and see if they have other solutions. Good luck!

is it possible you may have hard water? when i run low on salt in my watersoftener, my dishwasher leaves stains on glasses etc. - also, my neighbour said that she had this problem, so she cut down on detergent (which is a grit itself to be propelled by the water to get the dirt of your dishes) - she's cutting the tablets in half, maybe try if that helps.

It could be the hot water in the dishwasher that is crushing the grit on your plates naturally. This happened to me once and i got the same answer from an electrician.
