I think it is our natural instinct to go against the grain overriding our rational conditioning to conform for a brief moment, a flash of our infancy shining through our constricted adulthood perhaps?

I don't do such things, but some people do because they are spiteful or rebellious. If I see a "Wet Paint" sign, I assume it may be true, and I don't want to wash paint off my fingers. If one pulls when he should push, he is wasting effort and may tear up something or injure himself. Opening the wrong way may spill things. One could lose or ruin something. Some people just don't pay attention to instructions. Mom bought a camera once. I saw her take pictures in the house and said the flash should be used. She replied that it'd come on when needed. When she took a photo at night, I knew something was quite amiss. I read the instruction book and told her how to use the camera. The only pictures on the first roll of film that weren't ruined were a few I took. I am skilled enough to know when I can take pix without a flash.

We touch wet paint because we want to see if it's wet, we push the doors to go in because that's how it's supposed to be.

Who really knows what's what anymore.

Because you know that when the paint is dry the sign will still be there. So you have to find out.

It's called cognitive dissonance or simply when thoughts clash. It is when the mind play tricks with you. It is when you read something and it tells your mind to do it, but it doesn't.

I don't.... I just read labels, instructions and signs..... have a go.... it takes a second or two more, but you don't end up with paint on you or looking foolish when walking into doors!!

Its neither, we only truly see ourselves as a reversed reflection which means we are prone to do the opposite of what we are told.
