I recently bought a Dell laptop and got it with XP Professional. My mother uses our HP computer that is HOME Edition and is really slow. Is it possible to use the XP profesional disk i got with my laptop to put PRofessional on my mothers computer. Because the desktop of hers is sooooo slow.
How do i uninstall the home edition? or do i just put the professional disk in, and it will do it all.

Just boot the pc with the XP Profesional cd inside and it will do the job. You still have to buy another license for it! That one is only for the laptop (OEM), unless you bought it as a retail version :).

no you can't. XP can only be installed on ONE computer, especially the OEM version you got from DELL.
It would be a waste of time anyway. Upgrading to professional from home will not make your computer run faster, the version of the OS is not going to give you a boost in speed. Only upgrading her hardware will do that. try adding more ram.

Ditto with Ken; each computer hashes out different keys; not sure what went in the computation to begin with but keys are not interchangeable unless it is Corporate Volume License.

Microsoft would rather have you buy a license for your mother's machine even though it is going from Home to Professional, in fact what you plan to do constitutes piracy in their legal view and assistance in such activity is actively legally challenged but not eliminated. For what you plan to do search elsewhere.

Installing the Pro version will not make your computer faster. You probably have an older processor, like a Pentium 1 or 2, or something similar. Try defragging. If that don't help...get a new one!

It should upgrade automatically, provided it is a full copy. The speed of her PC is not determined by the operating system. Get her more memory or upgrade to a higher CPU.

Once you have upgraded it, you will need the license code to activate the windows prof, otherwise it will be a 30 day trial to use it.

No. That is unless you purchased a corporate license. Once installed on a pc, it is there for good.
