Am 25 and have had one or two but now it is getting borderline noticeable. Have eaten very poorly and not excerised for awhile now. Not going to exercise for the next few months while I care for a recovering relative so was looking to learn about any supplements/vitamins or foods I can take to help out. Will start exercising in December to help the rest of it.

I heard Steve Martin started taking vitamins once his hair started going gray but then when it returned brown he stopped because he liked the new look. I am not Steve Martin. I want those vitamins.

Thanks to whoever actually has an answer for this. I do NOT want to dye and that is the obvious solution anyway.

one of the most important sign for early hair graying is a type of anemia called (Pernicious anemia).
this type of anemia is mostly inherited in which the stomach due to lack of intrinsic factor can not absorb a type of vitamin called (vitamin B12).
to improve the Early graying u have to make a lab. detection for presence of intrinsic factor, vitamin B12 blood level, eat meat, avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine containing drinks with ur meals

I think you will find that no vitamin will stop it, if it is genetic, and most are. Most people in the industrialized world get all the vitamins they could need and more.

Years ago, there was some information that severe lack of B vitamins would cause people to prematurely gray, but confirmatory studies have not held up. You might try it.

People who gray at the young age you are generally genetically programmed to do so. My best friend was noticeably gray by age 19 and her hair is white and lovely. Something quite striking about white hair on a young face. Mine, in contrast got about a tenth gray, the rest has gone to this very yucky mouse black/brown and this combo looks worse than a nice head of gray hair. I wish mine would, but it is not in the cards, genetically for me.

Maybe take a good multi-vitamin, and a second B vitamin, and see if it has any effect. The B vitamins are water soluble, and won't hurt you if you take over the recommended dose, but do NOT do so with Vitamins A and E. Hope this works for you.

i read where a copper deficiency may be a cause and usually if you have this there is an iron deficiency also. You can fix this by eating whole grains, shellfish, nuts, beans and leafy vegetables. also the dye is a chemical which does have an effect on your hair, when the hair is strong its no problem but yours is weakened so it doesn't take much to worsen the problem. buy hair food it is a light oil you rub into your scalp it really works.

Gray hair is hereditary, you can put a rinse in it which is not a dye, my grandfather began turning gray at 20! They have no supplements that I know of that do that that well, if they were they would sell them in Walgreen's real quick. They are going to becoming out with a drug that will keep your hair from turning gray in the next couple of years. They were actually trying to find a solution for people who lose hair from cancer treatments and accidentally stumbled on a way in the lab on a drug that makes you retain the natural color of your hair.

In India, culturally it is generally important for us to have long, thick dark hair.

For thousands of years, Amla has been used. You can go to your local Indian grocer and get Amla shampoo and Amla hair oil. If you use the oil at least once a week as a hot oil treatment (preferably left on overnight), it really does slow the graying process significantly.

Amla is now available in the beauty section of stores like Whole Foods and Wild Oats if you have those in your area, but I stick with the true Indian products.

Neem is also good for healthy hair and scalp, but I don't believe it works as well as Amla.

Good luck to you! :)

There is a Chinese herb that is supposed to restore the hair color, the name of it is Ho-Shou-Wu also known as Fo-Ti. You can get it in capsule form or in a liquid formula. The thing is that you have to be patient, the herbal solution is not known for a fast cure, this formula is also supposed to also tone the body.

Connie is right, Fo-Ti is the best thing for premature graying. I have had many clients that Fo-Ti has worked for to return their hair color. One client was 65 years old and his hair turned back the original color.
