The temperature is hotter in the afternoon because the sun is at its peak. It is fully shinning down upon the earth. In the morning, the full glare of the sun is not on the earth, its only at an angle. That's the same reason the sun looks bigger. That and its cooler in the morning, because it still has the coolness from the night, but by afternoon the sun has warmed up the cool night air.

The angle of the sun is more direct when the sun is directly overhead. In morning and evening the angle is further away from 90 degrees and so less heat is delivered to the earth. Also, Just like an oven; it takes time to warm up after the heat is turned to high. When the sun is directly overhead, the heat has been turned to high. By about 2PM the earth is at its hottest time of the day.
During the day, the variation in intensity (with the peak at noon) is caused by the changing angle of the sun. There are two reasons for this. First, and most important, the lower the sun, the smaller the amount of radiation intercepted by a horizontal surface. (The earth is not completely flat, but over most areas it averages out to being nearly horizontal.) Second, the lower the sun, the greater the amount of air the sunlight has to pass through, and the more gets scattered by air molecules, by haze, and even by clouds.

At around 2 pm GMT the earth recieves maximun insulation.....or it absorbs maximun insulation, and afterward it emits it. Also the sun's rays are vertical in the afternoon. So it's more hotter than in the afternoons.
