Rings, and bun doughnuts have no middles, the latter has had its replaced with jam!

When I was a young girl we used to go to the local town bakery and they would sell bags of donut holes for fifty cents a bag. I believe you can still buy donut holes at bakerys

Dunkin Doughnuts makes doughnut holes with their middles.

I agree with Dave. And sometimes those "Doughnut Holes" can get very filling when you buy a dozen or so of them and just can't help munching the whole bunch!

There is no middle, I imagine you're talking about ring doughnuts? They're made as a ring in the first place.

The hole is what you wrap the pastry around. Once you've got a doughnut, you use the hole to make the next one. One whole hole is all you need. Half a whole hole is wholly unwholesome.

Every donut shop I've ever seen sells "donut holes" - the little piece of dough is cooked and iced just like the rest of the donut.

If they're still using the old fashioned donut cutters, I would say they make the balls and sugar them as well as the donuts! What a horrible waste to throw them away. Arent they too good to waste. :P

Each hole is carefully removed, rolled in sugar and given to the little people!

The same with the holes in polos. Do you remember when they started selling polo holes? That was groovy.
