An innocent family on vacation was traveling through and the police pulled them over.

These types of police activity are happening on a daily basis now.
Police no longer respect honest citizens. Cops are becoming paranoid schizophrenic psychotic murderers with guns and power now.
Cops have an attitude that it's them against us now.
What can be done to make things better?

You said "sadistic cruelty." Now if you can prove it with legal evidence, no cop, in his right mind, will ever classify such act as "heroic" or "police bravery!" But , as a common man, you probably will not be able to legally substantiate your statements. Regarding percentage of schizophrenia in any law-enforcing organization, the government and some non-government organizations have done sufficient research, and unless you have evidence for what you allege, or unless you have access to these sensitive studies, keep yourself discretely away. Emotions alone, will mostly NOT pay anything of advantage to you.

Don't paint all cops with the same brush. It's just like any other job, there are 99 people who are great and do great things and there is 1 ****-up who gives everyone else a bad name.

OMG!!! that story made me want to cry! i can't imagine if that would've happened to me...thats like killing someone's child! i think it is ridiculous that such things are happening...i don't know where your from but the cops around here aren't really that bad. but then again they aren't frazzled by such high crime rates either.....
