I've lived in Arizona all my life, six years here in Phoenix and I love it here. I've never lived anywhere else so it is hard to say if it's worth moving back to. My boyfriend is from Seattle and he wishes he could move back to WA.
One thing to think about is the cost of living is alot cheaper here in Phoenix. Also you just having a child adds on to the expensive living of WA, moving to Phoenix would probably help out with finances a ton. I checked out a website that puts the cost of living side by side from Seattle, WA and Phoenix, AZ and this is what I got:
"The cost of living in Seattle, WA is 26.4% higher than in Phoenix, AZ. Therefore, you would have to earn a salary of $31,599 to maintain your current standard of living. Employers in Seattle, WA typically pay 10.3% more than employers in Phoenix, AZ. Therefore, if you take the same type of job in the same type of company in Seattle, WA you are likely to earn $27,563. "
Crime will be anywhere you go, you just have to find the right neighorhood to move into. I live in North Scottsdale and I love it here. We do have hot weather here but remember, we don't get depressing rain, no tornadoes, no hurricanes, no earthquakes.. we have monsoon and heat.
Anyway, good luck with your decision!

I think Phoenix is great. I was born and raised in Phoenix and work in south Phoenix and I wouldn't move anywhere else. You are going to get crime anywhere you move to. You don't have to live in central Phoenix or even downtown Phoenix. The farther out of the city you are the better. So, if you are just on the outskirts of Phoenix, like Glendale, Peoria, or even Scottsdale, you should be just fine! Also, the weather is great! You don't get all the snow and rain!

Since you lived in Phoenix four years ago you already know how the area has grown like crazy. The growth has continued, and with the housing boom a couple of years ago homes have become quite expensive. The new neighborhoods in the southeast and northeast parts of the valley are very family-oriented with good schools and tons of activities for kids, if you don't mind the crowds and high prices.
I have lived here for 20 years and I think that for the increase in population there has not been an equal increase in crime. Phoenix remains a relatively low crime city for its size.

crime is everywhere unless you are on some island alone out in nowhere. Phoenix in general is not high crime, just certain areas. Every city is like that. If Phoenix isn't right for you, go to Scottsdale. Montana has the least crime (also population), try that

Good Question. As a person looking to retire and move away from L.A. I prefer the cooler climate up north to Phoenix. But the hot dry heat feels better on the aches and pains. Everywhere is growing and with more people is more crime. Az is having a bigger building boom then the north over the next 50 years so I would stay in Washington. There is also plenty of easy to get to drinking water in the north. Home is what you make it to be where ever it may be located.

I moved to Tri-Cities WA 4.5 years ago from Phoenix, I can't wait to leave WA! We will probably go to Bakersfield or Kettleman City CA, but Phoenix is still an option, I LOVE Arizona! :)

It's all a matter of opinion, and my opinion is 'NO'. I have lived just outside of Phoenix for the past eight years, and it still does not feel like home. It's overpriced, crowded, transient and hotter than hell. The people are not overly friendly because no one stays in place long enough to get to know anyone. Crime rate is climbing in both the city and surrounding towns.

if you got money it's not that bad, just stay out of downtown phoeinx, tempe. but why would anyone want to live there, it's too hot, and the most peoples brains are fried.. speed it the drug of choich for most and that make for robbers, and water is expensive.. i think there is enough people there already, and the water supply isn't going to last for long, here and las vegas,NV. i've hear the water will be gone in like 10 years.. even tucson isn't al that great... i'd look into flagstaff, it's in AZ.
