Receiver hitches are a piece of reinforced thick wall square tubing, either 1 1/4" or 2" ID(inside dimension or diameter if round) attached to the rear frame of a vehicle for inserting a male piece of tubing or solid stock of the matching OD(outside dimension) with a ball attached for towing. The "drop" part just means the height at which the ball is in reference to the receiver height. Many different drops are available from 0" drop to 2", 6" or what ever to keep what ever your towing as level as possible and to keep the proper weight on the trailers axles and not your vehicles rear end. The drop can also be reversed to create a rise of the ball if needed.
