Yes, insanity exists. Just watch the news for 1/2 hour and see how people treat one another. It's absolute insanity.

An insane person forgets his own identity and is unable to reason any thing and understand any thing that is told to him.
The world is virtually ceased to exist for him. There is no cogency in his speech or actions and he also does not know what he is doing. The intensity of this condition varies from mild to violent. It has nothing to do with social norms.

If someone sees something that isn't there or hears voices from people that arn't there then they are experiencing a psychotic episode. If psychotic episodes are the norm for someone, then we could define them as insane.

When a person can't function basic tasks of survival (if it is not caused by a physical disorder), ie eating, sleeping, dressing, keeping off the roads, not walking infront of cars etc, or is a threat to people without cause, because of unsubstantiated beliefs or a lack of belief in reality, then they are not sane.

if it didn't exist, why would they have medications for it and terms like neurotic, hypocondriac, nervosa in anorexia, schizophrenic etc.... the list goes on.
