now the total volume of the tank is = 64 X 50 X 40 = 128000 cm3...
now we know that 128000 cm3 = 128000/1000 litres = 128 litres
now it is 3/4 filled...therefore volume of water in it = 128 X 3/4 = 96 litres...
now the water is being drained @ 12litres per minute...
therefore time taken to drain the whole water out of the tank = 96/12= 8 minutes and this is the answer...

1. Get the volume of the tank:

64cm by 50cm by 40cm= 128000 cc

2. Convert to liters:

128000 cc(1 L/1000 cc)=128 L

3. Get the volume of the water in the tank:

128 L(3/4)= 96 L

4. Compute for the time:

96 L(1 min/12L) = 8 min

*I use dimensional analysis for computation and conversion.

e.g. 96 L (1min/1L)

1 L is in the denominator because the L should be cancelled to get the min. or the time

total capacity of the tank = 64*50*40 = 128000cm3 = 128litre
am of water filled = 3/4 of 128 = 96litre
time taken to drain 12 litre = 1 min
time taken to drain 1 litre = 1/12 min
time taken to drain 96 litre = 1/12 * 96 = 8 mins
ans = 8 mins
you should be knowing how to do these types

V (volume of tank ) = 64 * 50 * 40 = 128000 cm³ = 128 Litre
V (volume of water) = ¾ * 128 = 96 litre
∆V / ∆t = 12 L/min
T (time)= V / (∆V / ∆t) = 96 /12 = 8 minuites

Volume of water in tank
=3/4 * 64 * 50 * 40
=96000 cm^3

Time Taken
=96000/(12*1000)
=96000/12000
=8 minutes

(64 X 50 X 40) / 12000 minutes, for emptying FULL tank.
Tank is only 3/4 filled.
Hence, answer is [ (64 X 50 X40) / 12000 ] X [3/4] = 8 mins, for emptying "three-quarters" tank.

volume of water= 3/4* 64* 50* 40= 96000 cm3.
rate of draining= 12litres/min= 12000cm3/ min
time taken to drain water= 96000/12000= 8mins

=) that was fun. hope that the answer is right

8 minutes as water in tank in 96ltrs

2006-09-23 05:51:15 · answer #8 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

64 * 50 * 40 = 128000

(3/4)(128000) = 96000

(96000/(12 * 1000)) = 96000/12000 = 8

ANS : 8 minutes
