Super film - Watched when I was a kid and couldn't stop crying... now that I am older and more macho... I still can't help but shed a tear.

Huey, Leuy and Duey all take on such human characteristics that you begin to think of them as integral characters to the plot (the Poker scene especially is a wonderful touch).

Bruce Dern anchors the film - the way he interacts with the robots is flawless and such as starck contrast to his relationship with his doomed shipmates. He brings a real believability to the Sci Fi plot.

It is beautifully shot, the soundtrack is touching a great, great film.

Yes, actually this is something in the planning. Most good films are based on actual facts/theories look at the first "Star Trek" shows. Communicators, how stupid? Cell Phone?? Hmmmmmm. Go back further; Dick Tracy wrist commutator TV, Stupid? Hmmmm Cell phone with Video!!! Ha!! So, YES, this movie is very capable of comming true. They already want to try it in different ways.

I enjoyed it, but found myself nagged by the underpining dumbness of the basic scenario - sending growing woodlands into space has got to be the stupidest method of conservation you could think of! Why not just banks of seeds and genetic samples? Much more efficient. And if they really were the last trees, the planet would be so messed up that there would hardly be a space-faring technology surviving anyway.
