I have to agree with the right-wing nuts out there (in this one and only instance). The Democratic party needs to gets some balls. Present the issues, make them heard. Now.

Well, I'm a conservative, so I have a little different take on it than you do.

While sometimes I imagine how nice it'd be if there were no Democrats it would be - I don't seriously think that'd be a good thing!

We always need to have an opposition to the power in party. We need to have somebody to provide a "check and balance" against the party in power.

Now - do I think the Democrats will "rise to the occassion?" and pull out a major upset in the 2006 midterm elections? No - I really don't think they will.

That doesn't mean that the Democrats won't score upset victories, and possibly take back the House and/or the Senate, but if they do, I don't think it will be because of the Democratic leadership in Washington. I think it will be because of the hard work of Democrat candidates on the ballot in various areas.

What the Democrats need to do is come up with their own "Contract With America" and nationalize the election. The problem is, the current Democratic Leadership doesn't seem able, or willing, to do that. Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton, and a host of others seem more concerned about criticising everything Bush does - and don't seem to be able to offer any legitmate "opposing" ideas of their own.

I think that, aside from the "hard core" democrats and liberals, the vast "middle" of the political spectrum sees these attacks for what they are - just opposition to Bush - and that they have no ideas of their own.

If the Democrats could nationalize it the way the GOP did in '94, then they might have a chance to good a national "sweep". However, back in '94, the GOP released the Contract with America about six weeks before the election - which would mean that the DNC would have to release something in the next couple of days.
