The way I signed up was, when you go to http://www.gmail.com/ i just clicked the, :register by cell phone" option, all you do is enter your phone number and it will text you a registration code, hope it helps.

to sign up in gmail.com you need to get an invitation from any of the google mail users(i mean the one's who are already in gmail.com)try getting the invitation from any of your friends who are already in gmail.com or gime your mail id and i will send you an invitation

Unfortunately you need to be invited to do so. It is a limited access thing still. Ask a friend who already has it to invite you. If you still cant ask me and i'll invite you.

To get registered for a G_Mail account, you should have invitation from someone having g_mail account
