its caused by a virus...usually by the rhinovirus. If u r looking for natural cures...go for horseradish(for phlegm/mucus), garlic (antibacterial), echinacea(boost immunity/nature's antibiotic), cordyceps(boost immunity), ivy leaf extract(cough/phlegm) and of course lots of water :)

the common cold is caused by a virus that constantlyy mutates so that there will never be a cure as you have to vaccinate against a virus. You can take a pill and kill a bacterium these pills are called antibiotics and only people in the health care business know the difference between them
Since there is no vaccine and never will be there is no "CURE" only remedies. And since 99 percent of the population have no Idea what I'm talking about they will probably buy anything that promises relief
The best thing to take is Phenergan anti histamine to dry up the dripping passages (watch out it makes you sleepy) if you need to stay awake then take Pseudofed which dries up the passages but keeps you awake, and then a codeine paracetamol mix tablets to ease the pain and then just hide until you feel better
You need the bit of codeine because it is an antitussive that stops th e cough too. do not buy mixes or cough syrup it is too expensive
Remember the ONLY things that work are
Phenergan, codeine aspirin pseudofed
anything else is like faith healing. Only if you believe hard enough!!!!!!

Oil of Oregano is good for building the immune system, as is Garlic.
We also start with good multi-vitamin (on top of good diet), extra vitamin C - spaced out through the day or you'll just excrete it, Zinc Lozenges, chicken soup and a tea made with Lemons, Rosemary and Honey.
Rest up an you'll be feeling better soon.

The common cold is caused by cold viruses, and there are a lot of them. Large amounts of vitamin C can help prevent colds. After a person catches cold, I think the best cure is plenty of water and plenty of sleep.

LOTS of liquid. Some people think this means just orange juice the whole time, but even if it doesn't have any added sugar, it is still too much fruit sugars for your body at some point. Drink water to wash it out. Our naturalpath has reccommended pills called "Cold FX", and I have tried them. They are natural and seem to work all right.

a virus, and you can't kill viruses. the best way to fight the common cold is still the old fashioned remedies; time, rest, lots of liquids, and chicken soup. you can also get over the counter medications, but they are mostly pain reducers.
