I drive fast and have only had 2 speeding tickets in 24 years and not one at-fault accident :) I know I should slow down tho...

I use to drive fast.
The day I brought my daughter home from hospital I dropped 20kph off my speed.
With precious cargo you take more care.

I used to drive fast. Seventy-five to eighty on the L.I.E. and eighty mph on the Southern State Parkway was not unusual for me (that's the general "speed of traffic"- yes, there are lots of accidents- especially when the Southern State turns curvy near the city. After 28 years of driving, and no tickets or accidents, I got my first two tickets in the same year.
One was on the L.I.E. (84 in a 55 zone- justified- it was 4am and he had me dead to rights) and the other was on a Sunrise Highway service road (55 in a 35 zone- this was a non-professional jerk with a speed trap as soon as you got off the highway).
After paying $800.00 in Lawyers fees, I keep it down to no more than 5-10 mph over speed limit.
Lately, though, I have cut back even further. I read that the gas savings of going 60 as compared to 65 is twenty percent. That's like getting every 5th tank of gas free. I almost always go 60 or under these days, and I notice a lot of other drivers are keeping between 55 and 60 as well.
The speed limit in my area is 55.
("Turtles", as long as they stay out of the passing lane, never annoyed me unless they were going under the speed limit- If they're at least at the speed limit, I have no right to complain.)

I drive safely. As for speed, I usually go about 5 miles over the speed limit, but no more. But, I do stay in the slow lane...fast lane is for the speed demons...I hate slow cars in the fast lane (on the rare occasion when I am in a big hurry), so when I am going my 5 miles over, I am in the slow lane where I belong.

for the most part i always drive 5 miles over the posted speed limit althugh i have gotten i speeding ticket in 20 yrs (it wasn't in the state in which i reside)
