Diamonds for jewelry are not actually "cut" but are chipped and polished. Diamonds are hard but you can shatter one or chip one and that is where the skill comes in. If you do not get that just right there goes the diamond.
The "cutting" is done with special chisels and hammers and then polished on a diamond encrusted wheel or pad
They do not use lasers to cut diamonds. They do use computers to help with the best way to cut a particular stone to get the most carat weight and the best and most brilliance from the gem.
When they refer to diamond cut on jewelery they mean the design on the piece that the diamond is set into such as scrollwork or other inscription patterns.

There are 2 ways, using a laser and using a diamond. When you buy something, like a ring for instance, if it says 'Diamond cut' it means that it has been cut by another diamond. If it says nothing at all, then it has been cut by a laser :)
