Johnny Cash, it's one of the few songs where a cover version surpasses the original.

The Cash version of the Nine Inch Nails original was different as you would expect but in its own way, a classic.
Score out of 10:
Johnny Cash = 10
Nine Inch Nails = 10+

I think Cash's version is the more poignant and emotional. Bowie also covered it a long time ago but in retrospect it has nowhere bear the impact of Jonny Cash's version.

I would say definately Johnny Cash, I have recently learned to play the Johnny Cash version on guitar and I find when I sing it people can really relate to the pain and suffering the song portrays.

I haven't heard of them either but I am prepared to listen to the words if you will sing them to me? Are they sad? I like sad songs because I feel sad!
