Rude? Absolutly. It's NOT your house, you are responsible for the contents while you are there. What in the world would make you think it could possibly be ok?
Having people over, however innocent, whether or not you were partying would be highly Irresponsible, even if the owner said it was ok. so don't do it.

Did you discuss this ahead of time with the people you are house sitting for? If you are inviting a lot of people, and especially if alcohol is served, you should realize there could be damages that you will probably be held accountable for. How well do you know the people you are inviting?

Ive been a housesitter for 4 years and i dont believe its good etiquette to have parties or get togethers at the house your looking after. Im currently housesitting now and have been in this residence for almost 5 months. I have had family over for dinner and lunch and thats it. No parties, drinks or things like that.
The woman im housesitting for doesnt mind me having anyone over, but im weary about who is in this house because in the long run im the one held responsible for her items when i leave.

Yes, it is not your house and you are not a member of the family living in the house. If some body is coming to visit you should tell the lady of the house first and have approval.

Yes of course unless you have asked the owners of the house if you can have a few people over. But if you do it with out asking them then it is defiantly wrong.

Yes! Think if you let someone borrow something of yours, and then they exploited it, showing it to all of their friends -and you don;t even know what they did in it or to it?
