Look for a chat with some of your interests and just start talking to ppl. Nothing is gonna happen if you dont have that first push.

a really good way to make friends is to check out some penpal sites. here you can see how many other people share your interests , you can also search for people of the same age, country , sex etc . the best thing to do is to go to google homepage and type in penpals and search for them . you are sure to find someone you like

Look for chat groups for nerds and tell them you are one of them and you are 'cool.' I'm a nerd and I'm cool. I'd chat with you if I knew you were 'cool.' But you can't fake it. If they ask you what do you have in your shirt pocket don't say "pocket protector" even if you do, that is a sure fire way to alienate any cool nerd.
