I really don't get it. It's not fashionable, It's not cute or attractive, it just makes you look really immature and depressed and a bit crazy. Why do they dress like that? Is it a high school thing? Do you grow out of it and realize how retarted you were?

I'm in high school, and I can tell you that the entire Goth scene is immature, because they overdo the eyeliner, the black attire, the obsession with death, and so on. They dress like this because they won't make an effort to be social, seriously.
When they sit in a park or whatever, their black attire actually signals to people that they don't want to be talked to, so really next time you hear a Goth go "I am soooo alonez", punch them in the face and tell them they put themselves there.

Well, you might be wrong about Goths not being fashionable. Gothic is pretty fashionable in France, Germany, England and most of all Austral-asia!
I am living in Australia and I go to Japan quite often. Every Sunday in Harajuku, Tokyo. You can see people dressed in goth outfits and taking photos. Similarly, in Melbourne there are people who dress goth on the weekend for the sake of it. People who dress goth vary from ages 12 - probably 40. (so this isn't a stage children go through)
What I'm trying to say is, some people think it's cool to dress goth, or it's the "in" thing to do - like EMO-ism. Others are really into the dark, gothic, vampire thing... they sometimes go all the way to drink blood in blood bars or stay the night at cemetries. Whatever it is. It is something people practice or believe.
So, I guess Goth can be said as a "fashion statement" or something they can relate to e.g: the darker side of life. I guess we can stop people from being fashion slaves or their depressive soul.

Some people like being goth. I have a gothic friend and on the inside they are the same as everyone else- I don't care if you're a mosha, a goth, a rainbow-addicted, or just a funky person- it's the inside which you look at, not the outer.
But Goths don't see the meaning in life, don't know why it's there. Just want to end it. It's a way of expressing these feelings.

Some people grow out of it, othrs don't. There aren't many Goths, but if you really want to know ask a Goth!! They'll probably give you a reason you never thought of- and some Goth's look very cute :-)

one reason ppl are goth is the reason i am. we had friends and they betrayed us or we were hurt by some one close to us. Also we may just have never been accepted so that inspired us to become gothic.
Also emo are the ones with the tight clothes and those sort of things.

I only dressed goth once but would do it everyday if Evanescence would move in with me...........Everyone is there own unique person.Why are you so envious??????I have never been alone and never will be.....I think black is a very sexy exotic color....A good motto you should learn is you can laugh @ goths because they are different...Though they can laugh @ you because you are all the same...I would rather sleep with 1000 dark angels than one snow white angel who finds faults in others and thinks there **** don't stink..

they're young, impressionable and sensitive. once they get older and grown up, they will realize how they looked.
I think clothing/style is often used as a form of expression and goth is mostly a style. People, mostly young, use it to express themselves to the world.

I don't know but they sure do look stupid. I really think though that it's just young people being misguided and feeling cast out and then just finding a group to join. Who knows if they ever grow out of it. Again, they sure do look stupid! LOL

I Dunno, I figure that you're "DEAD" a long time, why would you want to look like a corpse while you're alive ? Then again, when I was in high school (A hundred yrs ago), it was a sea of big hair, and leather bomber coats, Who can figure out the psyche, of a teenager ?
