It’s a Docking Station/Port Replicator port. You can purchase an external Docking Station to add additional ports to your laptop or use it as a “desktop at home” solution. Computer companies made this so that you don’t have to unplug several units from your laptop when you want to transport your computer to a different location; you only have to unplug that one port instead of seven, not to mention it makes your laptop easier to take on the go.
