Also what do you think of when you hear Gypsy?

You can't. The main ability of gypsies is to be able to mimic the culture and attitudes of others. That is how they get people to trust them. They have an amazing ability to deceive. If they were honest, intelligent and hard working, they would be among the richest and most respected people on earth.

Their history: When they came to Europe from India, they were accepted at the royal courts and given land and titles. Years later when they didn't honor their obligations, they were run out of the country at the point of a sword. This happened many times, not just once.

What do I think about when I hear the word gypsy -- my ex-wife. After which I did a lot of research on gypsies. They are the lords of the con. If someone's background is gypsy run don't walk away from them. Although it will be hard, because they are very convincing, and I guarantee they can (and eventually will) deceive you and leave once they feel they have gotten all they can from you.

They, also, have a weakness for alcohol, like many ethnic groups.

I guess the best way to know for sure would be to ask them. The ones I have known are proud people and willingly offer this information.

Personally I used to hang out with a group of them in my late teens/early twenties, so that is what I think of. Those were great times, dancing around a bonfire under the stars while the guys played drums. They were also great story tellers, had a respectable love of the land, and I envied the remarkable freedom they created for themselves.

Are they wearing an intricate head scarf? Are they travelling in a caravan of wagons? Is there a crystal ball near by? Do you hear creepy violin music?

Well, in this country, it's if they have gold teeth, are driving Mercs and BMWs and are breaking into your house at night.

Swear. They're called "Rom", and they're the richest, begging-ist MoFos around, and they won't hesitate to rob you blind.

They've already visited my house a couple of times.

And they NEVER get caught.

They have no beliefs of laws. Not as in they break all laws, but they have a hippie type tone to them.
