Well, I have to say the Exorcist, but I was only seven when I saw it (against mom's instructions) so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it.
For me, I have to be in just the right mood to be really frightened by a movie. One of my faves is the Japanese flick 'The Eye' about a girl born blind who gets an eye transplant and starts seeing really really scary stuff (of course she does not know that is NOT what the world looks like.)

It had to be Psycho, but I was only 10. When I was 20, it was The Exorcist. When 30, it was Poltergeist. When I was 40 it was The Shining. None since then.

John Carpenter's 1987 movie, "Prince of Darkness." It's a bit dated, and I've never been exactly sure what it was about the movie that scared me, but it's been the only one to truly scare me.

the shining- not the one on tv but the kubrick classic with jack nicholson. movies like that always scare me because it is something i believe could really happen to a person. e.g. -the exorcist was based upon true events and texas chainsaw massacre. the one thats the most believable is the scariest.

The movie that gave me nightmares the most was The Grudge, I won't lie. As lame as the movie was, imagine that you have a little door in your closet, and every night I make sure my closet door, my bathroom door, and of course, my bedroom door is closed. I hate that little kid/cat thing! I can't even believe they are making a second one!
