There are so many possible causes of dampness: here is a brief list and some options:

1) if dampness is at Ground floor and restricted to low level on your wall (say no more than 3-4 feet from floor level) then the problem is usually rising damp. Needs a dampcourse injecting by a specialist.

2) If the dampness is at high level in the room, check for roof leaks, gutter leaks, pipe leaks in the attic or bathrooms above.

3) If dampness is generally all over a wall or walls in a room then it is usually condensation caused by a combination of poor ventilation, inadequate heating and a lifestyle that produces lots of warm moist air (drying clothes in the house, showering, cooking etc).

I suspect you have a condensation problem. You will need to introduce extract fans into bathrooms and kitchens and link them to light switches. Try and open windows on warmer days to air the house. Don't dry clothes in the house on airers etc.
You may need to crank up your heating system a notch or two as well

Good luck

The first step is to Identify the source of dampness . Remove the cause of dampness at the sorce. This is the cheapest solution in long run as any other quick fix solution will be costlier because if you will not remove the root cause the problem will go on returning.

Your query is contradictory. What is the best colution cannot be the cheapest.

Cheapest solution : Take a pickaxe and bring down that wall. Remember to retain the columns so that the roof stays in place.

Injecting antileak chemicals into the wall is a possible solution.

hey i had the same problem a few months back - in my case it was the roof leaking - so like the others have already said - check the cause first- if its the roof leaking get a specialist and use a poly-sulphate sealent for the cracks in the wall/roof. you may have to let the windows open for the moisture to dry off.O r u cud use the dehumidifier... Once thats done u may have to paint the wall again...

the cheapest way is to open the windows during the day time.by doing this the moisture present in the wall gets dried up and the breeding of flies gets reduced. if there is any leakage in the wall , u have to call the plumber!!!!!!!!!!!

first find out where the moisture is getting in, leaking roof? leaking pipe in the wall, or is the room is not open to the house circulation, if the room is always closed off leave the door open and make sure the room stays dry.

How about a dehumidifier or some fans. Moving air will have a drying effect.
