Yeah, one or two songs per day, toilet quality sound and only available if it wasn't cricket season. (Otherwise you just got cricket commentry/scores.
How much excitement could you take in one day?

Yeah I'd sneak into the hall dial the number 160 on the phone very slowly so my mom couldn't hear the telephone dialling ring click and sit there boogie-ing to dial-a-disc. How great were the 70's!!

Sadly I do (now I feel old). Sounds archaic now but back in the land before computers and teletext we phoned to hear the weather forecast, get the time(!) and pop music. I certainly remember listening to a selection (countdown?)on a loop sometimes but mostly I remember the same tune playing for long periods.

Yep, it was definitely 16. It changed to 160 around the time BT used Bernard Cribbens and the Busby bird in TV adverts.

I thought it was 166, we used to phone up in the public telephone boxes without putting any money in, and if you dailed the number, then tapped the metal that the phone sat on very fast, it used to connect for free, believe it or not.

Yeh, we had a similar regional thing here in Birmingham when you dialed 964 (for 96.4FM BRMB) and you could listen to the radio
