I mean think about it...

1. uninsured emergencies: hospitals can't turn people away in emergencies... the people can't pay for it because they don't have the money for insurance even... then our prices go up because hospitals have to increase prices for procedures to make up for it...

2. Medicaid/medicare... if you pay taxes, you're already paying for many people's healthcare through this...

I mean my health insurance is a TON more than any tax increase would be to fund a social healthcare program... everyone would end up saving money...

it just seems like we cut out big business and inflated prices when social medicine comes into play...

and I don't want to hear about "quality," unless you have personal experiences or know someone personally... I've talked to many folks that say for 90 percent of procedures, it's the same wait you would have in the U.S.... I mean if you have a popular doctor, it usually takes a few days to get in to see him unless it's an emergency....

the U.S. government now pays a large percentage of research costs for medicine even... so you wouldn't have to even move those funds....

David L: holy cr*p!
so if we regulated the price of services... we could potentially spend almost no more money... or just a very small amount of extra money to socialize the system?

Robodemoc: the question is.. Is social healthcare already in place in the U.S. to a degree?

sorry, I forgot the "is"... but no one else had a problem figuring it out... then I gave my opinion on the issue to stimulate discussion... sorry I have an opinion....

Even my HMO Md who doesn't like to work weekends sends us to the ER, and at night as well! Hospitals do turn away emergencies all the time, and in some they stabilize them and ship them out! The time to get medical care is when it is preventive, not making you wait until you are half dead to get treatment!

Excuse me! I have already paid my taxes and Medicare is a part of Social Security! Don't worry, even those on Medicare still must pay a premium! What you are paying for are the Trillions the government stole from Social Security and never repaid it! Sound familiar?

The reason the government and the Republicans don't want health care is HMO's and hospitals are making billions, paying their CEO's, like Anthem, 12 million a year, and pay their stockholders who do nothing! They then gouge the workers and deny claims! Why would they ever want health care? They have a great scam going on!

We have at least 15 hospitals in a 50 mile radius that does open heart surgery!

We need health care, and until you do get it, yours will just keep going up!!

Great Points you make thank you for enlightening us oh all knowing god.

Do you just live on rhetorical questions?

BOTTOM LINE:
As an inner city resident I have had free health care all of my life. My mamma took me to the emergency room and that's where I used to take my kids until I got a job with health insurance.

We never got turned away. We never paid a dime. How can you say we don't have full socialist medicine? We do, no one gets turned away. The only thing health insurance provides is a shorter wait and a bill for the copayment.

Not having insurance still guarantees my family healthcare, we just wait longer and pay nothing.

Maybe to some extent but needs to be thoroughly reformed to meet the needs of those who cannot be part of the system! A drastic cut in defence expenditure which is possible can easily take care of this! And, doing so, in the long run it is going to benefit the entire economy as there will be an increasing demand for medicare facilities which in turn will create more employment opportunities and the entire workforce itself will become much healthier than now with access to medicare being made available to all irrespective of one's economic status! The tangible benefits are far too many to be listed here!

I heard on a news program somewhere that the various levels of US government pays for 50% of healthcare costs, ie medicare, medicaid, uninsured reimbursements, and government employee health care. Since we spend twice as much as any other country per capita on health care , the US government is paying the same amount as other industialized countries.

We're quite a ways from social healthcare. People die every day from undiagnosed complications. I had a friend who lost a leg to Gangreen this year, our social healthcare system didn't help him. He's a Vetran and the VA didn't even help him.
