In the end the love you take with you is equal to the love you made with a person..... I think you can interpret it 2 ways. When you die all the love you take to your grave is equal to all the love you made when you were alive.... OR when you break it off with someone, for one reason or another it just didnt work out all the love you got out of the relationship will be equal to all the love you made.(S^X)
.....
......
why not.....

It means that you'll get a result commensurate with what you put into it. If you're looking for "ultimate, no holds barred, absolute everything" love, then you have to be willing to give it as well. If all you can give is a "one night stand", then don't be surprised when that's all they give as well.

my take on that is You can only get love if you give love, or you can be loved, if you love.
