why did they start putting fillters on smokes???(and im seriously serious)?

my mom told me 2 find out cuz her and my bro got in a fight about it and... so yeah.

i would say in the 40s/50s,just after the second world war,when women started smoking more,before the 2ww it was almost unheard of for women to smoke,it weakened the harsness and stopped the bits of baccy and staining,health wasnt an issue then
