I used to have AVG and it was very good but then it started to restrict some of its functions with version 8 i think. So I switched to avast! No complains here. Avast! has all the standard features or at least all that you'd expect from it plus it has a boot-time scan which basically allows you to do a virus scan at startup. I don't care much for paid anitvirus software especially when you can get great ones for free.

Both Norton and McAffee will drag even the fastest computer down worse than any virus you're likely to get.
Get a firewall, and don't open any attachments. Get Windows Defender (free from microsoft) and Spybot and that'll do you.
I have lots of folks asking me "What's wrong with my computer? Do I have a virus?" The answer usually is "No! You've got Antivirus!"

I have tried most, but PcCillin fro microtrend seems to fit the bill for me! Though not perfect, it works well!
While I have used other programs, Norton in my experience was the worse! I would have to wait up to 3 hours to get any help and then I got someone who I couldn't understand! I won't use them either because they farmed all the support jobs to India! They screwed up their own software, and there is no way to get it all off, ecen with the tool they send you!
It appears as Microsoft is getting in the business, but I have a fundamental issue with those making the programs also making spyware! If they know what the issues are they should fix them, not make you buy additional software!

Whatever antivirus software is designed by Windows... Because that way it ensures total compatibility with your operating system, and easier tech support because you run it off Windows, and that's what it was designed for...
WinAntivirusPro is a good choice... Has a firewall, virus scan, spyware scan, popup blocker, and everything... I use it, and I'm very happy with it.
By the way, Norton is not the best choice... It has more bugs than the Windows software, and malfunctions more easily, because it was designed for more than one operating system...

I have knowledge only about freeware antivirus products. Among them AVG is certainly the best( I have seen almost 7/10 recommending it ). It is updated almost daily, has many options like a resident shield, an email scanner, a scheduler etc. It scans slowly, though. Avast, Avira and ClamWin are also nice. Comodo's beta edition is not very popular as it is not very compatible.
Among paid versions, I have heard that BitDefender, Trend Micro and KasperSky are popular.

The best is McAfee you have to pay but it is the best. When i was using norton i had many problems, then i changed to mcafee i was totally secured i have no problems any more and the updates are being automatically. Then if you want something free download an AntiVirus and an AntiSpyware (Antivirus AVG Free Edition http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 and Ad-Aware SE Personal http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html )

There's a fantastic list of freebies on the following site (and not just AV programs) to keep your computer free from nasties:

Norton is very good but it's a resource hog on your computer and will slow your comp down...believe me, I should know, I've just finished with them after 6 years and am now using the free 12 month trial of EZ (which is great), along with ZA as a firewall.

norton these days has failed me, i still know lots of people who will swear by it.
I use Panda Titanium Antivirus and it has worked wonders for my computer, while a large program and the scan does take a lot of memory (doesent really matter if you set it to scan before you go to bed) and it finds everything. even if you download patches for applications and they have trojans or virus's or whatever panda will eradicate them and then you can still use the patch!
I also use McAfee antispyware, which im still not sure about coz it seems everytime i scan it finds something different, something seemingly unrelated to anything on my computer.

You should try NOD32. This is a great antivirus without much resources needed. You can also add another antivirus along with NOD32! I guarantee your computer won't get slower.
