ahhh... water. water is a powerful element, so you better be sure where and how to put it. the criteria in water placements is location and direction (meaning precise degree) of water flow.
it is not as one fengshui writer claim that if you place it at the right side of the door, you will have a lot of spouses coming into your life. it is not like that at all.
it is based on what theory you are basing it on. if you are using flying star, then you need to put flowing water at the timely water star... depends on the flying star chart of your house, which is based on the facing of your door and time when you first moved into the house.
then there is water dragons, which you can choose 4 inward water flow and 4 outward water flow... this can bring in wealth into your life. it is just powerful stuff- meaning if not used properly, it can be deadly to the occupant.
water in the front of the house... it depends on what theory you are using. i am talking about authentic chinese fengshui, not the black hat mambo jumbo.

it all depends on you. if it flows with your aura and your well being than go for it but if you do not feel the flow move it around till you are comfortable because feng shui is always about you

As long as the water is flowing towards the house - bringing wealth into the home and not letting the wealth flow OUT from the home. I don't know how you would achieve this.
