Brilliant lyricist, excellent guitarist, doesn't really give a rip what anyone else thinks, and produces amazing stuff. This is the guy who helped define New Wave in the early 80's, who collaborated with the Brodsky Quartet in the 90's (The Juliet Letters album - truly amazing), and worked with Jerry Garcia and Paul McCartney. The guy's got real cred a mile long. Actually, though, I don't think he's really recognized for how good he really is. Listen to (or at least read the lyrics to) "(What's So Funny 'bout) Peace, Love and Understanding" and you'll see what I mean. (Actually, though, I do believe that was written by Nick Lowe, but it was Elvis Costello who made it popular, and he might have even co-written it with Nick. Still, a very meaningful tune, especially in today's world... a guy from my church got killed by a sniper in Iraq a couple days ago, and that song seems all the more relevant to me now).

They're talking about Elvis Presley, not Elvis Costello.

Dont know. he´s a good musician and catchy performer. but not a brilliant artist. He has a unique nerdy ,cooly, formal look . And has recorded with Guru writers like Sir Paul McCartney with whom he co-wrote "Veronica".
